Evaluation of the airways has shifted to the use of CT as a first line examination, with bronchoscopy relegated to a secondary role. High-resolution CT (HRCT) techniques allow identification of findings associated with small airway disease, including structural and physiologic abnormalities. This article discusses HRCT findings in bronchiectasis of infectious and noninfectious causes. Imaging techniques and characteristic HRCT findings in specific clinical settings such as AIDS, cystic fibrosis, allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, and mycobacterium avium-complex infection are reviewed.
